Does my grand daughter's bio father have any custody rights in this situation?
she's 3. well, when she was first born, the bio dad got a lawyer to get joint custody and visitation. well, after a while he stopped showing up at the supervised visitations. he's never paid any child support that was court ordered. he had a drug issue as well. she doesn't know him, or his family. they just disappeared. my husband and i have been pretty much raising this baby. even more so now. my daughter has a drug problem, a bad one, so cps gave the baby to us. my daughter is in rehab as i write. well, today the cps lady tells me that the state has gone after the bio dad for child support and somehow he's found out that my daughter is having problems with drugs, so he asked the cps to place the baby with him and his family. well, they told him no, because the baby needs to remain with family that she knows and that he would have to take that to the courts. about 5 months ago i reached out to this guy to try and help me get some sort of joint custody of the baby, because my daughter was out of control. well, we spoke a couple of times and then again, we hear nothing from him. the cps lady told us to get a lawyer SOON and get custody of the baby. does this guy have a chance to take our grand baby? can he keep us from getting custody of this child? he owes about 23k in back child support and just stopped showing up for visits. thanks for your time.
